The Pelta-class frigate was a versatile model of frigate manufactured by Kuat Bulldoze Yards that had several dissimilar configured variants. During the Clone Wars between the Galactic Republic and Separatist Brotherhood, the frigates were used past the Republic Navy as a critical component of its war effort. The most mutual combat configuration was the Pelta-class strike frigate, while other configurations served as infirmary ships, such as the Pelta-class Medical Frigate, which was used to safely ferry injured clone troopers to medical stations for treatment. Pelta-class Send Frigates also served as supply ships to deliver armaments, medical supplies, and nutrient rations.
These vessels were vital to Democracy operations during the Battle of Ryloth and the Boxing of Christophsis, which saw the use of Pelta-grade frigates every bit blockade runners, supply ships, and medcenters. In the latter role, a number of medical frigates participated in the evacuation of the Republic Kaliida Shoals Medical Center, which was targeted by the Separatist heavy cruiser Malevolence, captained by Supreme Commander of the Droid Army General Grievous. In the second yr of the Clone Wars, Geonosian encephalon worms infected the clone troopers of Tango Visitor aboard the Pelta-class Medical Frigate TB-73. Following the sabotage of the Venator-form Star Destroyer Endurance, a frigate participated in the recovery and rescue efforts. Pelta-form frigates also served in the chapters of supply ships during the mercy mission to Aleen. Jedi Chief Kelleran Beq used the Pelta-class frigate Athylia to train Jedi initiates.
During the rule of the Galactic Empire, the nascent Rebel Alliance used Pelta-grade frigates every bit medcenters, with a handful being retrofitted with turbolasers. The Pelta-grade vessel Phoenix Domicile served as the command ship for the insubordinate Phoenix Cell until it was destroyed by the Dark Lord of the Sith Darth Vader during the Siege of Lothal. Rebels heavily modified Pelta-grade frigates into Pelta-class Assault Ships and Pelta-form Command Cruisers. Numerous Pelta-class frigates would go on to serve in the Citizens' Armada confronting the Terminal Order, a Sith empire that contained a vast armada that threatened the milky way. The frigates participated in the Battle of Exegol, which saw the defeat of the Final Order, and inspired a galactic uprising against the First Order.

On the aft of the Pelta-class frigate by its engine were two "wings" that were able to pin and open. The rebellion was able to exploit this by calculation additional engine units, albeit smaller, to the aft of the vessel. The Pelta-grade frigate was also equipped with a docking port on the starboard and port sides near the mid-department of the vessel, and later modifications would modify the door and frame of the docking ports. Alliance modifications also replaced the ramp and cargo bay with a ventral hangar bay[8] that was able to arrange viii starfighters,[six] including at least v RZ-i A-wing interceptors. The hangar bay had walkways located above the starfighters to let pilots to enter their respective starships.[10]
Modified Pelta-class frigates were too fitted with deflector shield generators. On one occasion, a Pelta-class frigate was destroyed by a single TIE Advanced x1 starfighter after only several strafing runs, despite having a deflector shield.[10]

The Pelta-form frigate served a variety of purposes during its service, seeing extensive use during the pan-galactic Clone Wars between the Galactic Democracy and the Separatist Brotherhood, primarily as hospital ships and supply ships[1] in the Republic Navy.[14] They were also used as freighters, picket ships, escorts, and light assail ships.[6] Equally hospital ships, the Pelta-class frigates were equipped to transport patients,[nine] equally well as rescue personnel in stranded escape pods.[21] During the Clone Wars, honorable Separatist generals were known to withhold from attacking the Pelta-course frigates.[vii] Pelta-course frigates were also used by the Alliance to Restore the Democracy as command ships and hospital vessels. After undergoing weapon retrofits, the frigates served larger gainsay and command roles, as well equally burn back up, anti-starfighter roles, and communications responsibilities.[1]
Rebel Pelta-class frigates,[two] such as the Phoenix Dwelling, were modified to conduct eight starfighters,[six] including at least 5 RZ-one A-wing interceptors[x] in a make-shift hangar bay,[2] serving in the capacity of a starfighter carrier. While interim as a carrier, the frigate would typically be flanked by escorts, such equally rebel CR90 corvettes.[10]

The Pelta-class frigates saw early activity on the onset of the Clone Wars, with three being deployed to the planet Christophsis[12] in 22 BBY[23] to deliver much needed supplies to Senator Bail Organa and his relief try, which had been cut off past Separatist forces during the early stages of the Boxing of Christophsis. The frigates were escorted by Jedi General Anakin Skywalker, Admiral Wullf Yularen, and 3 Venator-class Star Destroyers from Skywalker'due south chore forcefulness. Although Skywalker was instructed not to engage the Separatist blockade by Jedi General Obi-Wan Kenobi, Skywalker decided to engage the Separatist armada regardless and was shortly outnumbered and outgunned, every bit the Separatist fleet consisted of Munificent-form star frigates, Lucrehulk-grade Battleships, and the Invincible, a Providence-grade Dreadnought. Unbeknownst to Skywalker and Yularen, the Separatist armada was led by none other than Admiral Trench, who was thought to have been vaporized past a Jedi-led chore force at the Battle of Malastare Narrows when his flagship was destroyed.[12]

Skywalker and Yularen were able to briefly contact Organa, who informed them that his positions were in danger of existence overrun by Separatist footing forces. The transmission was cutting off only as one of Skywalker's Venator-class Star Destroyers was hitting by a barrage of Separatist light amplification by stimulated emission of radiation fire. Soon, the Invincible began begetting down on the Republic armada unopposed, and Trench ordered his forces to divide the Pelta frigates from their escorts. The Invincible launched a salvo of light amplification by stimulated emission of radiation fire at the Republic fleet, resulting in the destruction of a Pelta frigate. Kenobi presently arrived in his flagship, the Venator-grade Star Destroyer Negotiator, contacting Skywalker and advising him to retreat equally he had brought a new surreptitious weapon that would requite the Democracy an advantage in the battle. Skywalker reluctantly agreed, ordering the two remaining Pelta frigates to retreat to Kenobi'due south position behind Leesis, the moon of Christophsis, while Skywalker's Venators covered their retreat. Eventually, Trench was defeated when Skywalker used the secret weapon, a stealth ship, to destroy the Invincible, with Trench even so onboard.[12]
As the battle continued on the surface, Yularen and a Venator-class Star Destroyer were dispatched to a Haven-grade medical station to pick upward supplies and reinforcements, with several Pelta-class frigates as well docking with the station.[14]

- "This is Republic blockade runner 0-9-nine, we have broken through!"
- ―A Pelta-class frigate relays that they take broken through the Separatist occludent
When the Separatists invaded the planet Ryloth[24] in 22 BBY,[25] the Republic Outer Rim garrison led by Jedi General Ima-Gun Di and the Twi'lek Resistance led by General Cham Syndulla were quickly overrun, and Di attempted to contact the Jedi High Council for reinforcements. Afterward a flow of heavy fighting, Republic supplies were exhausted, and Republic forces were being overwhelmed. Di ordered the Republic fleet in infinite led past Admiral Dao to attempt to contact the Jedi High Council over again for immediate reinforcements. Although Dao finally managed to contact the Jedi Quango and inform them of their dire situation, the Republic fleet was destroyed and Dao was killed mid-transmission.[24]
Three Pelta-class frigates intermission through the Separatist occludent of Ryloth, successfully delivering supplies.
Ryloth was also far from the nearest Democracy base to help in fourth dimension, while the planet Toydaria was the closest potential base of operations to launch a humanitarian mission. Every bit such, the Jedi contacted Senator Organa and informed him of the situation on Ryloth, asking him to negotiate aslope Junior Representative Jar Jar Binks of Naboo to persuade the Toydarians to open up their world as a supply base for several Pelta frigates to launch their aid mission to Ryloth from. Afterward failed negotiations with the Toydarians at the impediment of Senator Lott Dod of the Trade Federation, King Katuunko of Toydaria approached Organa and Binks, stating that the Toydarians could non turn a blind centre to the suffering on Ryloth, and that the Republic may use Toydaria as a supply base of operations on the atmospheric condition that it would just exist the supplies that the Commonwealth have already brought with them and that the Trade Federation would not be aware of the assistance mission and Toydaria's involvement.[24]
Organa devised a program which included a special dinner for Katuunko, several of his advisors, and the representatives of the Trade Federation, all of which was a ruse to distract the Trade Federation of the 3 Pelta frigates which were loading upward the supplies and leaving for Ryloth. The Trade Federation was unaware of the ruse until it was far too late, and 3 Pelta-form frigates, including occludent runner 0-nine-9, were able to load supplies and successfully pass through the Separatist blockade of Ryloth and drop relief supplies to the Twi'lek Resistance and their families after the sacrifice of Di and his men to embrace their retreat. The Twi'lek Resistance were able to capture the supplies and proceed their campaign.[24]

- "Guide the patients that can be moved onto transports as speedily as you tin."
- ―Master Nala Se, to a clone officeholder
In 22 BBY,[26] afterward the Boxing of Abregado, the new Separatist weapon, a Subjugator-class heavy cruiser named the Malevolence under the control of Supreme Commander of the Droid Army Full general Grievous, was tasked with destroying a convoy of at least 3 Pelta-class frigates and their escorting Venator-course Star Destroyer. The successful attack led to the entire convoy being destroyed, with survivors attempting to abscond in escape pods. During the engagement, Grievous was given new orders past Separatist Head of Land Count Dooku to target and destroy a Haven-grade medical station, the Kaliida Shoals Medical Center, as it housed tens of thousands of wounded clone troopers, making it a target ripe for destroying. With Grievous forced to take a longer route around a big nebula to reach the station, the Republic deduced that based on the previous attack, the medical station was the next likely target, and Skywalker was dispatched along with his padawan Ahsoka Tano, Jedi General Plo Koon, and the BTL-B Y-wing starfighter/bomber Shadow Squadron, to the medical station and destroy the Malevolence.[nine]
Pelta-class frigates return to the medical station after the Malevolence retreats.
Yularen alerted the medical station of the incoming threat, and Chief Medical Scientist Nala Se informed Yularen that even if they had the necessary transports, there would yet not exist enough time to evacuate all of the wounded. Kenobi presently contacted Nala Se, informing her that the nearby planet Naboo was sending ships to aid in the evacuation. As Grievous was en route to the medical station, Pelta frigates began arriving and loading the more stable wounded patients to the frigates starting time, with the more critically injured having to wait. When Grievous and Skywalker arrived, Grievous opted to target a fleeing group of Pelta frigates beginning, then bargain with Skywalker and his squadron. Afterwards Grievous destroyed the fleeing grouping of Peltas, the Malevolence and its starfighters engaged Skywalker and his squadron; in the ensuing battle, Skywalker lost about half of his squadron. At the behest of Tano and Koon, Skywalker decided to change his strategy of attacking the bridge to targeting the ion cannons of the Malevolence.[9]
This strategy turned out to be successful, equally the Malevolence received critical harm to both of its ion cannons and hyperdrive, with extensive impairment throughout the vessel. As three Venators atomic number 82 by Kenobi and Yularen arrived, Grievous was forced to phone call off his attack, retreat and telephone call for reinforcements. In the aftermath of the battle, the surviving Pelta frigates returned to the medical station,[nine] the Separatist reinforcements were engaged by Jedi General Luminara Unduli and her forces, and the Malevolence would eventually be destroyed later on its hyperdrive was sabotaged, sending it crashing into the Dead Moon of Antar.[27]

Windu's defenses held, just the battle was costly to his men and he requested medical supplies. With Skywalker, Kenobi, Unduli, and Jedi Full general Ki-Adi-Mundi occupied with the backwash of the battle and the transportation of Geonosian Archduke Poggle the Bottom to Coruscant for interrogation, Skywalker suggested that they let Padawans Tano and Barriss Offee handle the supply mission and utilise TB-73, a Pelta-class frigate, to pick up the supplies from the Ord Cestus medical station and transport them to Dantooine. Tango Company was ordered to accompany the Jedi, however, unbeknownst to the others, clone trooper Scythe had been infected by a Geonosian brain worm on the planet'southward surface. The worms were previously seen and thought destroyed along with the Progate Temple when Geonosian Queen Karina the Great used the brain worms to form a hive mind and reanimate expressionless Geonosian warriors to create an undead army.[17]

The infected Scythe gathered more Geonosian encephalon worms and brought them inside TB-73, resulting in the infection of most of the coiffure, and soon took command of the bridge later on killing the pilots. Tano and Offee, unaware of the dire situation, went to the mess hall to swallow and relax when they were attacked past two infected clone troopers, Ox and Edge. Deciding to split upwardly, Tano was able to communicate with Clone Captain Rex and Skywalker, and informed them of the situation aboard the frigate. Skywalker interrogated Poggle for information on how to end the brain worms without the knowledge of the others. Subsequently Skywalker Forcefulness high-strung Poggle, he informed Skywalker that the worms were affected past the cold. After Offee was infected, she engaged in a duel with Tano, with Tano beingness able to escape and rupture the coolant organization onboard the transport as instructed by Skywalker.[17]
One past ane, the brain worms became affected by the severe cold, just as TB-73 came out of hyperspace. Jedi General Kit Fisto, who was onboard the medical station, dispatched two Commonwealth TUG-314 spacetugs to help guide the transport into the docking port. The spacetugs were having difficulty guiding the ship in, with the tug pilots deducing that the pilots of TB-73 were expressionless and that there was no ane at the controls. Afterwards Tano briefly dueled Offee over again on the bridge, Tano was able to kill the brain worm that infected Offee, rendering her unconscious. The tugs were eventually successful in docking TB-73 to the medical station, preventing a collision betwixt TB-73, the medical station, and other Peltas docked with the station. Republic forces quarantined the ship and rescued Tano, Offee, and the clone troopers, who were all able to recover from the cold and the infections.[17]

By iv BBY,[25] 1 retrofitted Pelta-grade frigate, Phoenix Home, served as the flagship of Phoenix Cell that was under the leadership of Commander Jun Sato.
At one point, the Phoenix Dwelling house was in dire need of medical supplies, so Commander Sato came upwards with a plan to repaint the Phoenix Home as an Imperial Pelta-form medical frigate to sneak onto a sector hospital station to steal the supplies. Sato hired several Rebels to deport out with the alteration and the theft. The plan was successful.[vi] At another point, the Brotherhood caused another Pelta-class frigate and modified information technology to fit the specifications of Phoenix Home. Alliance members were tasked to carry out its shakedown cruise, which consisted of attacking a lightly dedicated Imperial sensor post. The attack was successful.[6]
The vessel was destroyed by the Nighttime Lord of the Sith Darth Vader during the Siege of Lothal when Vader used his Necktie Advanced X1 during the attack[x] with the objective of finding and destroying the fleet and capturing the jail cell's leaders.[35] After the destruction of Phoenix Home, Sato and other members of Phoenix Cell discussed the loss of their command transport, where they realized that they would need to establish a suitable base of operations in gild to sustain themselves.[twenty]
Following the blockade of Ibaar,[ane] which took identify by two BBY,[36] Monday Calamari Admiral Raddus sent a certificate composed by his Monday Calamari aides, Caitken and Shollan, to Commander-in-Main Monday Mothma detailing the Alliance Armada's electric current condition. Concept fine art of the changes fabricated to the Pelta-course frigate for Star Wars Rebels
The Commonwealth medical frigate first appeared in the 2008 theatrical film Star Wars: The Clone Wars.[14] The frigate went on to announced in the Star Wars: The Clone Wars blithe television series and was prominently featured in the 2009 episode "Brain Invaders," where it served as the chief setting of the episode.[17] The vessel was first provided with its proper canonical name in the Databank on the StarWars.com website.[38]
The frigate was first named in the Star Wars Legends continuity via The Clone Wars Campaign Guide, which was released in 2009.[39] In its entry for the Pelta-class frigate, the 2018 canon reference book Star Wars Encyclopedia of Starfighters and Other Vehicles incorrectly identifies the model as a YT-2400.[vii]
In the German magazine, Star Wars Blitheness-Magazine, in the comic strip "Split up and Conquer," Phoenix Cell is depicted as having a Pelta-class frigate in their possession. Every bit the comic takes place later the 3rd season episode, "Imperial Supercommandos,"[40] Phoenix Cell's Pelta-class was destroyed in the premier of the second flavour, Star Wars Rebels: The Siege of Lothal, and because no other source has indicated that Phoenix Cell had some other Pelta-form, this article assumes that it is likely an inconsistency in the comic'southward fine art.[41]
